Five Covid patients, who were under home quarantine, fled to their native villages, the police said on Thursday. All lived in the same rented accommodation in the district’s Mullahera village.

All five patients and their landlord, who allegedly urged them to flee, have been booked under Sections 269, 270 and 188 of the IPC at the Palam Vihar police station.

According to their Aadhaar cards, they are natives of Uttar Pradesh, the police have said.

On the complaint by Dr Harmit Kaur, head of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mullahera village, Sanjay (38) tested positive on July 28, and Deepak (26), Vijay (47), Vakeel (24) and Vishwamitra (33) tested positive on August 1 and 2. Subsequently, they were home quarantined.

On Thursday, their neighbour informed the police that the UP men had fled. On reaching their rented accommodation, the police found them missing.

“The Health Department has the record of their Aadhaar cards and mobile phone numbers. The mobiles are switched off. We are trying to trace them,” said ASI Gyanender, investigating officer.
