Responding to media queries on flood management during an event in Sirsa, Barala criticised senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, saying, “Hooda should focus on fulfilling his role as the Opposition. There is no need for him to worry unnecessarily.”
Barala further claimed that during the Hooda-led government, affected farmers were given cheques of only two to two-and-a-half rupees, whereas the current BJP government has provided compensation of up to Rs 15,000 per farmer. He said both the Haryana and Central governments were working continuously in the interest of farmers.
The MP made these remarks while attending an awareness event for the MP sports festival at the Panchayat Bhawan in Sirsa. Former MP Charanjit Singh Rori, who recently joined the BJP, was also present at the event.
Speaking about the festival, Barala said the initiative, launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at encouraging youth participation in sports at all levels. He added that the youth from Sirsa, known for their sporting spirit, would once again bring pride to the region.
He said the festival would feature nine team games and six individual sports, with registration open until September 20, and competitions beginning from September 21.
District BJP incharge Ved Phula said the sports festival would run for 96 days, starting at the block level and progressing to the Assembly and then Lok Sabha-level competitions. District president Yatindra Singh and Dabwali BJP president Renu Sharma also addressed the gathering, highlighting how sports helped build discipline and teamwork among the youth, and noting a visible shift in mindset post-2014, with growing interest in both education and sports.
