The two-day state-level Vasantotsav-2025: Flower Exhibition and Flower Competition concluded at SD PG College here on Wednesday.

IOCL Refinery bagged the overall trophy. The 11th edition of the event, organised under the joint aegis of Save Environment Society and National Service Scheme, was inaugurated by SD Education Society patron Roshan Lal Mittal, the chief guest of the event.

Naresh Kumar Goel, secretary; Satish Chandra, chairman SDVM HUDA; and Pawan Garg chairman, SD International School, were the guests of honour at the event.

College chairman Dinesh Goyal, vice-chairman Rajeev Garg and principal Dr Anupam Arora welcomed the guests.

Mittal said such events were important in order to awaken a love for nature in the hearts of people.

The principal said schools, colleges, nursery gardeners and the general public of the state participated enthusiastically in the event.

No fee was charged for participating in the flower exhibition. Rangoli, hand-printing and ‘selfie with flowers’ competitions were organised for students of schools and colleges.

More than 600 individuals participated in the individual events, while more than 15 institutions displayed their floral varieties and exhibited more than 1,500 flower pots.

More than 60 varieties of flowers — including petunia, rose, carnation, dianthus, cactus, sage, foliage, geranium, anemone, ranunculus, dahlia, chrysanthemum, cyclamen, calceolaria and pansy — were presented during the event.

Annu Ahuja, Dr Monika Khurana and Tannu Mehta headed the jury.

Rajni Gupta, a Bollywood actor who visited the festival, said, for years, flowers had been teaching many lessons to society. Flowers and plants were more sensitive than human beings as they ‘smiled’ even after sacrificing themselves for others, she added.

Flora taught us selflessness humans, she said.
