The authority is planning to take up various development works related to roads, sewerage, water supply, drainage and transportation sectors, which is estimated to cost between Rs 600 crore and Rs 800 crore for the upcoming financial year, claim the sources in the district administration. Recently, a budget of Rs 3,400 crore has been announced for Faridabad and Gurugram and the FMDA is expected to get an allocation up to Rs 1,000 crore in 2024-25 if the planning goes well, say the officials concerned. The budget for the upcoming financial period could be two to three times of the funds allocated in the past year, it is claimed. The FMDA is focusing on preparing and executing its long-term plans and is working in accordance with the master plan of 2031 and 2041 when the population at that time will require basic amenities on a much larger scale, it is reported.
According to initial estimates, an amount of Rs 2,600 crore is required for the augmentation and upgrade of the water supply network and Rs 700 crore on sewerage infrastructure in the next five years.
“The quantum of the funds required will depend on the finalisation of the plans,” said an official on the condition of anonymity. Besides, the requirement of over Rs 200 crore for roads, the state-level convention centre in Sector 78 and connectivity projects need an additional amount upto Rs 800 crore in the next two to three years. The FMDA has already taken over the work of major roads, Ranney Well water scheme and main sewerage network in the city. The agency is authorised to get funds through the transfer of external development charges from the Town and Country Planning Department, stamp duty charges, part of the cess from RTA and additional cess on infrastructure development works.
Neha Sharma, spokesperson, FMDA, said while the funds allocation for the upcoming year is expected to rise substantially, the exact amount for various projects is yet to be calculated. To provide integrated and coordinated planning with infrastructure development, provision of urban amenities, mobility management coupled with social, economic and industrial development has been the motive of the FMDA, it is stated.
