Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today directed Deputy Commissioners to focus on a micro-irrigation system to ensure that water reached every field.

He said the government was providing an 85 percent subsidy for setting up micro-irrigation systems so that more farmers got motivated to adopt the system.

He said: “At places where irrigation is done with canal water, more number of farmers should be motivated to adopt a micro-irrigation system so that areas facing water scarcity are not at a disadvantage.”

The Chief Minister also took detailed information from all Deputy Commissioners regarding the micro-irrigation project and directed them to lay special focus on eight districts of south Haryana, namely Bhiwani, Rewari, Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, Sirsa, Mahendragarh, Nuh and Palwal for promoting micro-irrigation.

Meanwhile, of these eight districts, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh and Rewari were directed to ensure the implementation of the scheme in a more focused manner.

The Chief Minister said: “As there was severe water problem in the districts adjoining Rajasthan, therefore, more focus should be given to speed up the installation of micro-irrigation system in these districts, along with ensuring appointment of adequate staff in the Irrigation Department.”
