Four-day Saraswati Mahotsav begins at Adi Badri in Yamunanagar

Amid the chants of ‘shlokas’, the four-day Saraswati Mahotsav began at Adi Badri in Yamunanagar on Sunday. Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal, who was also present on the occasion, said India’s civilization and culture had emerged on the banks of the Saraswati.

The state government has been making all efforts to rejuvenate the river, he added. “The project is in its final stage and a dam would be built in Adi Badri at a cost of Rs 250 crore,” the minister said.

He added: “Efforts are being made to increase the scale of celebrations and various events will be organised in Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and also in all villages situated on the banks of the river.”

Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora said Adi Badri was the origin point of Saraswati. The site would be developed from the point of view of tourism and people would be made aware of the importance of the Adi Badri and the Saraswati.

Dhuman Singh, vice-chairman, Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board, said the mahotsav had started today and students from various schools presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

A conference on the Saraswati would be held at Maharishi Dayanand University on February 12 and various events would be organised on February 13 in Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra. The closing ceremony would be held on February 14 at Sarsawati Tirtha, Dhuman added.
