Yamunanagar, February 18

Dr Abdul Majid, Additional Sessions Judge, Yamunanagar, has awarded life imprisonment to four persons for killing a man, who asked them not to play cards in the area saying it left a bad impression on children. In a decision pronounced on February 15, the Additional Sessions Judge has also imposed a fine of Rs 19,000 each on convicts Mani Yadav, Veer Arjun, Rahul and Nitin Lamba, all residents of Azadnagar of Yamunanagar.

Accused Surender, Sarwan and Jitender were declared proclaimed offenders by the court. However, the court acquitted Akshay and Pravesh extending the benefit of doubt from the charges framed against them. As per complainant Sanjay, he, Suraj and Neeraj were residing in Azadnagar where some persons used to play cards.

He said when he along with Neeraj and Suraj were going towards the bank, they saw the accused playing cards. When they asked them not to play cards, they started abusing them. “The accused attacked them with iron rods and sharp-edged weapon,” the complainant said. He said their neighbours took them to hospital where doctors referred Neeraj to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he died on September 28, 2016.
