One of the victims died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Ankit, Lokesh, Dipankar and Sombir, all residents of Ghilaur village in Rohtak district.

Sombir was the son of Balwan Ranga, district president of the Congress, Rohtak (Rural). Following the incident, the police reached the spot and initiated an inquiry.

Balwan Ranga, in his complaint to the Baroda police, said the accident occurred near the railway bridge and the Rukhi Toll plaza, where the construction work of the road was underway.

His son Sombir, along with his three friends, was on their way home to Ghilor village from the tiles godown. Sombir was driving the car.

As they reached near the railway bridge, their car hit road-roller, which was parked on the road without any warning lights or security barricades. The impact of the collision was so great that all four were severely injured. All were immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Gohana.

He further alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the Highways Authority of India and the driver of the road-roller. No warning signboards were mounted on the road. If security measures were adopted by the highways authority at the road construction site, the life of his son and three friends could have been saved, he added.

ASI Kuldeep Singh, in-charge, Bahinswan, said the bodies of all four deceased were handed over to their kin after a postmortem examination held on Sunday.

A case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the road-roller and the highways authority on the complaint of Balwan Ranga, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said. No accused has been arrested so far in the case, he added.
