The cyber police have busted a gang of fraudsters with connections to China who deceived people under the guise of offering online part-time jobs.

Four suspects from Punjab have been arrested by the police, who disclosed that they were operating under the direction of a Chinese citizen.

Cybercrime ACP Priyanshu Dewan said on November 30, 2023, a person lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police Station East, alleging that he had been swindled of Rs 8.5 lakh on the pretext of providing a part-time job. The cyber police later arrested one gang member, Utkarsh Soni of Naini in Prayagraj, on February 14 and another member, Ashutosh from Gopalganj, Bihar, on February 18.

During interrogation, the suspects divulged details about their gang, with the alleged leader identified as Chander Prakash Tiwari of Kaithal. On February 22, the cyber police arrested four more members, including the gang leader, from Zirakpur, Punjab. The other three suspects were identified as Ankit, Abhinav and Nitin Kumar, residents of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh.
