The candidates of both the BJP and the Congress are leaving no stone unturned to strike a chord with electors to gain their support in the Assembly elections scheduled on October 5.

Deepak Niwas Hooda, BJP candidate from Meham and former skipper of Indian Kabaddi Team, operated a fodder-cutting machine in Farmana village here when he reached there to seek votes from villagers.

As soon as Deepak saw a couple preparing fodder in a machine at a house in Farmana, he immediately helped them in cutting green fodder and appealed to them to vote and support him stating that he too belongs to a farming family and knows the life of farmers.

“I am connected with soil and know how much farmers toil to earn their livelihood hence I could not stop myself from cutting fodder when I saw the villagers doing that at Farmana village,” Deepak told The Tribune, adding that he is overwhelmed with the public support he was getting in the election.

The BJP this time nominated Deepak its candidate from Meham in place of its candidate for the two previous Assembly elections, Shamsher Singh Kharkara. Interestingly, Shamsher after quitting the party has fielded his wife Radha Ahlawat as an Independent candidate.

Similarly, Congress candidate from Rewari and sitting MLA Chiranjeev Rao also drove a tractor during his canvassing at various villages in Rewari district. He also flagged the plight of farmers while addressing poll meetings in Fidedi, Budana, Gokulpur and Jaanti village of his constituency.

“The BJP government has pushed farmers on the path of devastation by making false promise of doubling their income. The input cost has increased many-folds in the past decade but the farmers’ income is going down. They were compelled to make rounds of government offices to get compensation for their crop losses but the BJP government did not pay any heed towards them. Farmers are now eagerly waiting for the Assembly polls to oust the BJP from power,” said Chiranjeev.

In Jhajjar, former minister and the Congress nominee Geeta Bhukkal carried out door-to-door canvassing in Jhajjar city. She called on shopkeepers and vendors in the market and appealed to them to vote for her in the assembly polls.

Talking to them, Bhukkal said law and orders in the BJP regime had gone from bad to worse. “Criminals are demanding extortion from businessmen while sitting abroad and as per the NCRB report, Haryana has become one of the unsafe states for women in the country. Businessmen are being attacked for not fulfilling the demands of criminals,” said Bhukkal.
