From pictures to paintings: Rang Srijan showcases the power of art

Two-day art festival at MDU; VC announces arts museum for visual arts dept

The celebration of creativity took centre stage at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here with the commencement of the ‘Rang-Srijan’ event hosted by the department of visual arts of the university on Monday. The event brings together a rich tapestry of paintings, artistic creations and visual masterpieces to showcase the power of art.

This two-day festival was inaugurated by MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh who inspired students to embrace and express their creativity.

In his inaugural address, he emphasised the transformative power of art, stating that it was a powerful medium for self-expression, allowing individuals to convey their feelings, emotions and imaginations. “Art serves as a platform for expressing compassion and empathy and that meaningful social messages can be communicated through artistic works,” he added.

In a major announcement, the VC revealed plans to build an arts museum within the university to further support and enhance the department of visual arts.

The event was graced by guests of honour, including Vishwa Ranan Nirmal and Dr SK Kushwaha, who shared their thoughts on the importance of nurturing creativity.

Prof Randeep Rana, Dean (Students’ Welfare), and convener of “Rang Mahotsav” delivered the welcome address and highlighted the diverse and vibrant activities that made the event a unique celebration of art and culture.

“Rang-Srijan is an integral part of the Rang Mahotsav, which is being celebrated at the university on a grand scale,” Rana added.

Sanjay Kumar, convener of ‘Rang-Srijan’ and head of the department of visual arts, outlined the various artistic activities and workshops scheduled over the two days, providing students with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning and creative exploration.

Krishika, a student of the university, successfully conducted the stage during the inaugural ceremony.

As part of the festivities, the painting and photo exhibitions are being held, allowing the visitors to experience the rich array of student artwork.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by university officials, faculty members from the department of visual arts, department heads, university staff, and students, all of whom joined together to celebrate the spirit of creativity and artistic expression.
