Gandhi’s ideals still inspire youth: Former minister

Former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, president of Gandhi Global Family (GGF), has said that the life of Mahatma Gandhi is not only a symbol of the freedom struggle but also an eternal source of inspiration for the younger generation.

Azad was addressing young participants as chief guest on the second day of the Global Youth Festival, organised jointly by the National Youth Project, Gandhi Global Family and Sant Nirankari Mission.

The former Union Minister elaborated on Gandhiji’s philosophy, the role of youth and the importance of constructive work. “Gandhiji proved that non-violence and truth are the greatest powers. Today’s youth, who face the challenges of the digital age, should adopt these values and engage in constructive work. From cleanliness drives to environmental protection, only the energy of youth can bring change in every field,” he stressed.

He appealed to the young to embrace Gandhiji’s principle of trusteeship, where wealth and resources are used for the welfare of society. Highlighting GGF’s work, he said the organisation was spreading Gandhiji’s ideas globally and striving to connect young people across the world.

“Through creative works, we are working on issues such as social harmony, women’s empowerment and peace-building,” he said.
