Gang stealing tubewell wires, equipment from fields busted, three arrested

In a major breakthrough, the anti-vehicle theft staff of the Kaithal police busted a gang allegedly involved in stealing wires and other equipment from agricultural fields. It has arrested three members of the gang and recovered two vehicles used in the crime, a submersible motor fan and other equipment used to remove submersible motors, two iron pipe, 70kg of rubber-coated copper wire, 12 broken starters, five small cylinders and other agricultural iron equipment from their possession. With their arrest, the police have solved 57 cases of theft reported in the areas under Pundri, Titaram, Sadar, Kalayat, and Dhand police stations.

During a press briefing, DSP Sushil Prakash said Sandeep, a resident of Kailram village, filed a complaint that on the night of March 9, unknown persons broke into his field storage by cutting the lock and stole a starter, 150 ft of wire, a motor fan, a milling machine and iron pipes. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Kalayat police station. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kalia directed the officials to work on the case, following which the team members arrested two persons Rajpal and Sonu, both residents of Pharal village, from Khurana Road, Kaithal, on the evening of March 11. After producing them in court on March 12, the police obtained a three-day remand for further interrogation. During investigation, the accused revealed the involvement of their associate, Roshan, also a resident of Pharal village, was subsequently arrested. DSP Prakash confirmed that all three were brothers and had been engaging in theft for a long time.

The accused admitted during interrogation that Rajpal and Sonu, along with their associates, were committing thefts since 2024, while their younger brother, Sonu, joined them in January 2025. Their gang was involved in 57 theft cases across Kaithal district.

Rajpal, who previously worked as a scrap dealer, suggested his brothers that valuable equipment in farmers' fields could be stolen and sold for profit. The gang would conduct recce during the day and execute thefts at night.
