Gangster nabbed at airport for attack on Haryanvi singer Rahul Fazilpuria

The Gurugram police nabbed gangster Sunil Sardhania, who had claimed responsibility for the attack on Haryanvi singer Rahul Fazilpuria, from the Delhi airport on Sunday morning.

Sardhania had reportedly come to India from Costa Rica and the moment he landed, he was detained at the airport and taken into custody by the Gurugram crime branch. Sources said “pressure exerted” by the Gurugram police forced Sardhania to return to India. The police produced him in a court, which sent him to five-day police remand.

Though lying dormant for years, Sardhania had hit the headlines in July this year for “orchestrating” the attack on Fazilpuria.

An accomplice of gangster Deepak Nandal, Sardhania took everybody by surprise when he claimed responsibility for the firing at the vehicle of Fazilpuria in Sector 71 on Southern Peripheral Road on July 14 and also for the attack on the singer’s close aide, Rohit Shokeen, who was shot dead by two shooters near the Palm Hills society in Sector 77 on August 4.

Sardhania had accused Fazilpuria of a financial fraud with Deepak and termed the attack a warning.

The killing of Rohit was believed to be an escalation of a months-long extortion saga as Sardhania claimed responsibility for the murder.

The killing followed a dispute involving Fazilpuria, who was reportedly under pressure to pay Rs 5 crore to his former friend and producer Deepak.

Rohit, a Delhi-based property dealer, was hit by around 15 bullets. In a social media post following the murder, Sardhania took responsibility for the attack mentioning Deepak and Rao Inderjeet Yadav.

Police sources said Shokeen had acted as a guarantor for Fazilpuria in his financial dealings with Deepak.

“It’s a major success. We have got Sardhania’s remand for five days and will question him on the recent crimes he has claimed responsibility for. He had fled to the US using fake documents,” said a spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
