A joint team of health officials from Panipat, Sonepat and Gurugram districts unearthed a fraudulent sex determination racket here today.

Dr Adarsh Sharma, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Sonepat, said Kapil and his brother Amit of Gurugram were operating a fraudulent sex determination racket and duping people.

Dr JS Punia, Civil Surgeon, Gurugram, Dr Sandeep Sanduja, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Panipat, and Dr Sharma cooperated in getting the accused arrested.

Health officials sent a decoy customer to Kapil, who demanded Rs 80,000 and asked her to come on Saturday. He took her to Sonepat on Saturday, but ultrasound was not conducted. He asked her to come to Panipat, but ultrasound was not conducted this time either.

Kapil and the decoy customer reached a hospital on the Assandh road on Monday. The joint team followed them to the hospital.

Kapil paid Rs 800 for ultrasound at the hospital, where a doctor conducted the test. Kapil took Rs 80,000 from the woman and said something in her ear.

Health officials caught him and recovered Rs 80,000 from him. The team grilled the doctor about ultrasound, but found no wrongdoing.

Kapil was handed over to the police. A case was registered under relevant sections of the PCPNDT Act and the IPC.
