Girl student dies, five injured after being run over by bus

Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij said an inquiry had been ordered into the bus accident and strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
Former Haryana Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta and Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal visited hospitals to assess the condition of the injured students.
Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesman, said when a Haryana Roadways bus en route from Paonta Sahib to Delhi reached Pratap Nagar bus stand at 7.40 am this morning, some girl students tried to board it.
He said instead of stopping the bus, the driver accelerated, injuring six girl students, out of which one girl student, Arti of Kutipur village, died.
According to information, the injured students were immediately taken to nearby hospitals, where they were undergoing treatment.
After the incident, the students blocked Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib national highway demanding action against the bus driver.
Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta and Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal visited the accident spot and hospitals concerned to assess the condition of the injured students.
“We have initiated the process to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and injured students as per government schemes,” said Gupta.
Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij said senior officers of the Transport Department had been instructed to thoroughly examine all possible causes of the accident — whether it was due to a technical fault in the bus or driver’s negligence. He asserted that if anyone was found at fault at any level, he would not be spared.
Former Minister Kanwarpal Gujjar also visited hospitals to enquire about the well-being of girls who were seriously injured in the tragic accident. He said the Haryana Roadways driver involved in the accident was suspended and the state government asked to terminate his services. He further said the number of buses at the Pratap Nagar bus stand would be increased.
On the complaint of an injured student Archita of Pratap Nagar, a case was registered against bus driver Anil Kumar under several Sections of the BNS and Section 72 (C) (A) of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, (Haryana Amended Bill, 2020) at the Pratap Nagar police station.

Saini offers condolences
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini described the bus accident that occurred on Thursday at the Pratap Nagar bus stand in Yamunanagar as extremely unfortunate. He expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased student and wished a speedy recovery to the students injured in the accident.
A Haryana Roadways bus (number HR58 GV 6578), going from Paonta Sahib to Delhi, met with an accident at the Pratap Nagar bus stand this morning. Some students attempting to board the moving bus fell off, resulting in injuries to five students, while one student died during treatment at the PGI, Chandigarh. The CM approved an immediate relief amount of Rs 2.5 lakh for the family of the deceased student. An assistance of Rs 50,000 each, along with free treatment and reimbursement of medical expenses, was approved for the five injured girl students.
