Girl toppers of Rohtak village rewarded

The girl student toppers of Bhaini Chanderpal village in Rohtak district, which attained the highest sex ratio of 1,243 in the district in 2023, were given cash rewards of Rs 1.5 lakh by Deputy Commissioner Dharmender Singh at a ceremony held here on Monday.

The DC exhorted the district residents, public representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions and officials of the Health and Women and Child Development departments to work towards increasing the sex ratio of the district.

He presented a cheque of Rs 75,000 to Payal who stood first in Class X, a cheque of Rs 45,000 to Aarti who stood second and Rs 30,000 to Varsha who secured the third position.

The Deputy Commissioner also honoured the sarpanch and panches of the village panchayat and the officials of the Health and Women and Child Development departments by presenting them with letters of appreciation.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dharmender Singh said with a view to improving the sex ratio of the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao national programme on January 22, 2015, in Panipat, under which monitoring was increased at various levels.

“As a result of effective implementation of the programme, a significant increase in the sex ratio has been recorded in the state,” he said.

Rohtak Civil Surgeon Dr Ramesh Chander said any person who provideed correct information about prenatal sex determination and female foeticide was given a reward of Rs 1 lakh by the Health Department and his/her identity was also kept secret.

He asserted that the Health Department kept a constant watch on all 12 MTP centres and all ultrasound centres in the district.

Stating that all necessary steps were being taken to improve the sex ratio of the district, he pointed out that 11 FIRs had been registered under the PC and PNDT Act in the district. Dr Vishvjeet Rathee, the Nodal Officer for the implementation of the PC and PNDT Act in the district, administered the oath of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao to the gathering.

Senior Medical Officer of Lakhanmajra Dr Ranveer Singh, Principal of Government Girls Senior Secondary School Dr Poonam Verma, Medical Officer Dr Mohit Gill, village Sarpanch Shivram, panches Rajbir Singh, Manisha, Raj Singh, Sangeeta, Yashveer Singh, Rinku Rani, Kulveer Singh, Reena, Bunty, Lakshmi, Rajendra Singh, Pooja, Rajbala, Lakshmi, Karamveer Singh and Rajkumar were honoured with letters of appreciation.
