Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsIntensifying his campaign on the last day, Kalyan Singh Chauhan, an Independent candidate from Sohna, said while the segment was a golden goose and realty hotbed, the BJP and the Congress had reduced it to being Gurugram’s backyard.
Urging voters not to trust the parties again, Chauhan asked them to give the Independents a chance this time.
“You have witnessed the rule of the Congress and the BJP. They took away the land of Sohna farmers and developed it as real estate. We contribute a major chunk in Gurugram’s revenue. We are still the backyard of Millennium City. In order to change this, choose somebody who stands for you and will not be bound by vested interests of the parties,” said Chauhan.
Refuting all rumours of him backing out at the last moment or supporting either the BJP or the Congress, Chauhan said he was still fighting solo.
Having emerged as a major threat to both BJP candidate Tejpal Tanwar and Congress nominee Rohtash Khatana, Chauhan claimed that since day one, he had been under pressure to retreat and support one of the parties, but he had always stood his ground and was going to contest alone.
