District Town Planner (DTP) RS Batth, along with his team, recently visited these areas twice and asked the unauthorised vendors to remove the encroachments but still many of them did not vacate the areas illegally occupied by them.

Today, after having noticed the encroachments again, the GMDA officials conducted a demolition drive at the unauthorised furniture market near the Sikandarpur metro station where they demolished three building material shops and removed a lot of the material from there.

Further, the enforcement team also took the help of towing machines and towed nearly five vehicles, which were parked illegally under the metro line.

Batth said these areas were encroached upon for the past many months and locals had complained about traffic jams. It was also found that material loaded vehicles were entering and exiting on the main road disturbing the traffic movement. Almost 20 such vehicles were also removed from the spot.

He said the locals had sent multiple emails for removing these encroachments because MG road provided connectivity to Delhi.

Batth was assisted by ATP Satinder Arya, JE Ashish Tyagi, JEs Sumit Boora, Pankaj and Pawan Kumar. The mobility towing team from GMDA was also present in this drive. Around 15 policemen were also present on spot to maintain law and order.

“We are working on a zero- tolerance policy towards anyone illegally occupying government lands or public spaces that cause disturbance to the public at large,” the DTP said.
