Govt hikes financial assistance for wedding of girls from EWS families

The Haryana Government has increased the financial assistance provided under the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana, enhancing support for the wedding of girls from economically weaker sections.

As per a proposal approved by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday, families from backward classes with an annual income of up to Rs 1.80 lakh will now receive Rs 51,000 — up from the earlier amount of Rs 41,000 — on the occasion of their daughters’ weddings.

Sharing this information, an official spokesperson said, “The objective of the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana is to provide financial assistance for the wedding of girls from economically weaker sections. With the latest revision, backward class families living below the poverty line will now receive Rs 51,000 as ‘Kanyadaan’.”

In addition, female sportspersons of any category will also receive Rs 51,000 as assistance for their own wedding. The scheme further extends to differently abled couples, where either the husband or wife is physically challenged, offering them Rs 51,000 as support.

Families belonging to Scheduled Castes, Vimukta Jatis and Tapriwas communities will continue to get Rs 71,000 under the scheme.

The government is also offering Rs 51,000 for the remarriage of widowed, divorced, orphaned or destitute women — provided they did not receive the benefit during their first marriage.

Furthermore, if both members of a newly married couple are physically challenged, they too are entitled to the Rs 51,000 benefit.

To avail of the scheme’s benefits, marriages must be registered within six months. “The application process is designed to be user-friendly and straightforward, ensuring eligible applicants can easily access the benefits,” the spokesperson added.
