Devi Lal said the farmers across the state were struggling due to crop losses caused by unseasonal rains and floods, yet the government did not conducted any special survey or offered compensation. “Even today, rainwater remains stagnant in many fields, and the government has failed to drain it out,” he said.
He added that under the BJP-led state government, the farmers were not receiving the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops, forcing them to sell their produce to private buyers at low prices.
The MLA demanded that the government issue a white paper detailing the total crop loss and compensation paid so far.
He said former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal and ex-Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala always worked for the welfare of the farmers and all sections of society, while the current government had exploited everyone, leading to widespread anger.
Earlier, INLD district president Jasbir Singh Jassa alleged that despite the official price of DAP fertiliser being set at Rs 1,350 per bag, the private dealers were selling it at Rs 1,800 with the connivance of agriculture officials.
He warned that if overpricing and black marketing continued, the INLD would protest outside dealers’ establishments.
The protest was attended by several INLD leaders, including women’s wing leaders and members.
