Govt to launch face app for welfare scheme verification

In a major tech-driven step towards streamlining welfare delivery, the Haryana Government is set to launch a face app for self-certification of beneficiaries receiving pensions and other social security entitlements. Aimed at enhancing convenience and updating records, the app will help eliminate deceased beneficiaries and ensure timely and accurate data management.

Currently in the final stages of testing, the app will allow beneficiaries to submit life certificates directly from their mobile phones, twice a year. The initiative is being piloted in two districts — likely Panchkula and Ambala —in August, before a statewide rollout. Once fully implemented, it will benefit over 36 lakh recipients across the state.

“This technology based facility will allow beneficiaries to complete self-certification requirements from the comfort of their homes using their cell phones,” said Prashant Panwar, Director, SEWA Department.

The initiative draws inspiration from similar digital welfare models in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. “We took cue from Rajasthan where this app has proven to be highly effective in assisting welfare recipients. Our team visited Rajasthan in February this year and since then, we have been working on developing this application for our beneficiaries,” Panwar added.

According to the Department’s data, 21.96 lakh senior citizens receive the Old Age Samman Allowance, 8.88 lakh widows, and 2.09 lakh persons with disabilities are also on pension rolls. Additionally, the scheme supports persons with dwarfism, members of the transgender community, destitute children and patients with rare diseases.

Once operational, the app will require users to log in twice a year for verification. For those without smartphones, Common Service Centres (CSCs) and local SEWA offices will facilitate access and offer assistance.

“Those who do not have cell phones can easily access this app at the local CSCs or the block-level offices for certification. The local SEWA offices will prioritise their needs, ensuring no one is left out due to technological barriers,” said ACS (SEWA) G Anupama.
