There are 11 government colleges, four government-aided colleges and three self-finance colleges. As per the faculty members of various colleges, this year’s admission is expected to be highly competitive, as nearly 18,000 students have passed Class XII from both CBSE and the Board of School Education, Haryana. The shortage of seats has caused anxiety, particularly among students, aiming for high-demand streams such as science, commerce, and arts.

Teachers from various colleges confirmed enthusiasm among the applicants. In response, college managements have established help desks to assist students during the admission process.

Ashima Gakhar, Principal of Dyal Singh College, said that nearly 1,000 seats were sanctioned across various courses, for which students were applying online.

“We have constituted an admission committee and a counselling centre to assist the students with queries related to admissions and course selection,” she said.

The students can also visit the college campus to fill out admission forms online, with help desks set up for assistance. The last date for application submission is June 9, and any correction or amendment in the application forms can be done until June 10. The admission committee will verify documents online until June 15. The first provisional merit list will be displayed on June 18, and the final merit list on June 19. Fee submission for the first round of counselling will be accepted from June 20 to 23, she added.

Gakhar further mentioned that the second provisional merit list will be displayed on June 25, followed by the final second merit list on June 26, with fee submission scheduled from June 27 to 29.

The principal said that physical counselling for leftover seats will begin on July 1, and the portal for new registrations and application modifications will reopen on July 2. The admissions for leftover seats will be held from July 3 to 9, with a late fee of Rs 100. Further physical counselling for vacant seats will continue from July 10 to 15, during which an additional fine of Rs 100 per day will be charged on top of the Rs 100 late fee.

Dr Jarnail Sehrawat, vice-principal of Pt CLS Government PG College, Sector 14, said they had also established help desks for all types of student queries related to the admission process. “The documents submitted by the applicants are being verified online by the admission committee,” he said.

Sehrawat said that there were 1,750 seats sanctioned for various courses in the college. Devi Bhushan, convener of the admission committee at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, shared that around 800 seats were reserved for various undergraduate programmes.

“A large number of students are coming for admission. Recently, our college has been granted Sikh minority status, which allows us to directly enroll students into different courses through our own admission portal, without requiring them to register through the DGHE office portal,” he said.

He said 150 students have already registered through their internal portal, and 37 students have secured admission in various courses. A help desk has also been established at the college for admission-related inquiries.

Meanwhile, the students with average scores are particularly concerned about securing seats. Many are also exploring colleges in neighbouring districts or considering private institutions, which often involve higher tuition fees.
