Scores of guest teachers under the banner of the Haryana Atithi Adhyapak Sangh took out a state-level protest march in the city on Sunday. They staged a dharna near the CM Camp Office in Prem Nagar, demanding regularisation of jobs. They wanted to gherao the CM Camp Office, but the police stopped them near the office by installing barricades.
Narinder Sandhu, district president of the Sangh, said a joint action committee comprising Pardeep Batan, Krishan Dharsul, Dinesh Yadav and others led the protest from Fountain Park in Sector 12 to the CM Camp Office.
"We were appointed in 2005. We have been demanding regularisation of our jobs since the appointment, but we have not yet been regularised," he said.
The protesting teachers also demanded "same work, same pay," seeking parity with other teaching staff. Sandhu highlighted that the BJP, during its poll campaign, had promised to regularise their jobs. "Even after 10 years in power, the BJP has not fulfilled its promise," he added.
"We have been regularly reminding the BJP, but it seems the government is not serious about our demands," Sandhu added.
In addition, the guest teachers are demanding dearness allowance (DA) with basic pay and increments.
