Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said Gurugram must achieve the number one ranking in cleanliness through effective administration and active public participation. Launching the campaign with the theme “Mera Gurugram – Swachh Gurugram”, he urged citizens to make cleanliness a way of life for a healthier future.

Leading by example, the CM joined the Mega Swachhata Abhiyan at Sohna Chowk and Sector 52, where he picked up brooms alongside Swachhata Mitras to spread the message.

“Cleanliness is the foundation of a healthy life. Everyone must adopt it as a continuous part of their lifestyle to create a pleasant environment,” Saini told the gathering. He assured that the state government would extend full support to realise the vision of a clean Gurugram.

The drive saw remarkable participation, including volunteers from Dera Sacha Sauda and other organisations, who cleaned the entire city within just seven hours. Overseas volunteers from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other regions also took part, adding a global dimension to the effort.

Later in the day, the CM chaired a high-level review meeting on the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign 2025. The focus was on strengthening sanitation in urban and rural areas, modernising solid waste management and turning the drive into a mass movement. Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel also attended the meeting.

According to an official statement, the CM directed officials to draw up a comprehensive action plan for Gurugram and Faridabad, ensuring a permanent solution to solid waste disposal. It was decided that waste-to-energy plants will be set up in Gurugram, Manesar and Faridabad, capable of converting daily waste into electricity. The work is expected to begin in the coming months, with the plants to be fully operational within 24 months.

“Cleanliness is not limited to a government programme but is a social responsibility in which every citizen should play an active role. Municipal corporations must work responsibly and ensure timely garbage collection and regular cleaning of drains. Urban bodies that perform better should be rewarded. Our goal is to make Haryana a leading state in cleanliness in the country,” the CM added.
