Gurugram: GMDA teams up with Maruti to enhance road safety

Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has signed an MoU with Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana to strengethen effective traffic management and increase safety on the roads of Gurugram.
Under this project, CCTV cameras will be installed at 23 junctions of four road stretches in the city-SPR road, Golf Course extension road, old Delhi road to MG road and Cyber City road to Golf Course road by the Maruti.
The aim of the project is to eliminate/reduce manual intervention in traffic enforcement and challan system, and reduce traffic violations, accidents and fatalities by implementing integrated traffic management system.
The GMDA has already successfully completed Phase 1 of the project to install CCTV cameras wherein 1,200 cameras at 218 junctions in Gurugram and Manesar areas have already been installed by it. These camera feeds were monitored round the clock by police department for city surveillance and traffic management.
Maruti will also install 400 CCTV cameras equipped with latest technologies — hardware and software for red light violation detection system, speed violation detection system, automatic number plate recognition, helmet detection, wrong-side driving detection, electronic challan system at multiple junctions of various road stretches.
