The State Commission for Women (SCW) has expressed dissatisfaction with the action taken so far by Chaudhry Ranbir Singh University (CRSU), Jind, and the police in an alleged harassment case that came to light in the wake of leaked WhatsApp chats between a teacher and a girl student.

The university has removed all three accused Assistant Professors, and its internal committee—besides the Jind police—is conducting an inquiry.

SCW chairperson Renu Bhatia, who visited Jind today and met the SP and university officials, later stated, “I am a bit dissatisfied why the university has not lodged an FIR. I have also talked to the SP to see how the case should proceed.”

Jind SP Kuldeep Singh said the police had formed an inquiry committee comprising ASP Sonakshi Singh, Civil Line police station incharge Pooja Rani and SI Rajesh Devi, incharge of university police post. “The university has handed over the matter to its internal committee for inquiry. Since the matter is sensitive, the police is taking it seriously,” he said, adding that the police would proceed further on the completion of the inquiry, though so far, no written complaint had been filed.

The matter came to light when some students met the university authorities on November 29 and levelled allegations of harassment against some teachers. The sources said Bhatia had also called the accused professors to the Jind PWD rest house in the evening and conducted a closed-door inquiry.
