Kurukshetra: With the state-level event on the International Day of Yoga completed smoothly, the Kurukshetra district administration is heaving a sigh of relief. The event not only saw the participation of around 1 lakh people at Brahma Sarovar and the mela ground, but also back-to-back meetings and frequent site visits by the officials, police personnel and even higher officials from Chandigarh. An official said with the Chief Minister personally monitoring the preparations, the officials were on their toes to make the event successful. To ensure all preparations and arrangements were in place, officials held back-to-back meetings for nearly one month.Liquor mafia on a high

Yamunanagar: The fifth round of the auction has taken place, but the Excise and Taxation Department could auction only 10 liquor zones of the total 55 (a zone has two retail liquor shops) so far. Liquor contractors are not coming forward to place bids citing threats. The poor response has the district administration worried. As most liquor vends are closed in the district waiting for new allottees, it is alleged that the liquor mafia is doing a brisk business. The police are making efforts to tighten their noose around liquor smugglers by seizing their illegal liquor consignments.
Cong loyalists back in reckoning
Rohtak: The Congress’s move toward organisational restructuring has come as an opportunity for long-time loyalists who, for various reasons, had never been considered for the post of president in either rural or urban party units in the district. Many of them have now staked claim to these positions and are enthusiastically sharing the news with others, enjoying their moment in the spotlight.
