Yamunanagar: Despite having a Congress MLA, there has been no impact on development works in Jagadhri Assembly constituency. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently announced the setting up of an agriculture college in Kishanpura village, situated close to Pratap Nagar town of Yamunanagar district. The college will be named after Guru Tegh Bahadur. People of the area say that the CM is doing development of all areas of the state equally without any discrimination and has won the hearts of the people by making this announcement. The credit of the announcement of this college is going to former Haryana minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar, who had lost the last Assembly election to Congress candidate Akram Khan.

BJP gears up for PM’s visit

Kurukshetra: BJP leaders and the state government have been leaving no stone unturned to ensure that all the arrangements are in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Kurukshetra. From back-to-back meetings and visits to all three venues, BJP leaders can be seen issuing instructions to party workers. A BJP leader said duties have been assigned to office-bearers at all levels and they have been told to bring the maximum number of people to Jyotisar for the event to be held to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Accidental ZP chairman

Hisar: The zila parishad meeting held here on Friday witnessed some stinging comments by the Opposition councillors to target Chairman Sonu Sihag who is from the BJP. Councillor Sunil Moond from JJP called Sihag an “accidental chairman” and said either officers do not listen to him or his intentions are questionable. “For three years, our works have not been completed. If nothing is to be done, why call meetings?” he asked. The chairman responded that he was elected with a full majority, still enjoys majority and thus was not an ‘accidental chairman’. Moond maintained that the works approved in the first meeting three years ago have still not been completed and demanded details of the funds spent ward-wise, insisting that grants should be distributed equally. Another ZP member Manoj Tak Mahi said government officers have secure jobs till 58, but councillors have got just five years to perform so they must be given adequate grants and powers to fulfil the aspirations of people. Another member Satyavir Sindhu added that they had no real power.

Ex-MLA upset with Congress

Hisar: After the recent tussle in the district unit of the Congress during the event to highlight the ‘vote chori’ issue at the district Congress Bhawan office, a former MLA of the party, Ram Niwas Ghorela, who lost the previous Assembly poll from Barwala, seems to be highly upset with the party. He has been making statements targeting a senior leader of the party in Hisar district for opposing him during the Assembly poll. Though he stopped short of naming him in public, party sources said that he had given a detailed complaint to the party high command regarding the senior leader’s role in the Assembly poll. Speculations are rife here that Ghorela is upset with the state party leadership and is rethinking his political future.

Spraying of ink on PM’s posters

Karnal: Politics in Karnal took an unexpected turn this week when two Youth Congress leaders sprayed black ink on posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. What they thought would be a bold act of political protest quickly turned into controversy, so much so that criticism came not only from BJP but from within their own party. The action by Youth Congress president Rajat Lather along with one of his associates of spraying ink at Karnal bus stand prompted swift action from the police. Both were arrested shortly after the act and granted bail later. Interestingly, the reaction from the Congress camp has been far from united. While some leaders distanced themselves, calling it unnecessary, while some stood firmly behind Lather. Senior leaders seem reluctant to defend an act that many believe crossed a line. After all, spraying ink on posters may grab attention, but it rarely wins sympathy.

‘Chakka jam’ threat

Panipat: An alleged feud between a woman petrol pump owner in Panipat, who is considered an aide of a senior minister in the Haryana Government, and a conductor of Haryana Roadways Sonepat Depot has become a headline these days. Enraged over the beating of the conductor reportedly by the woman in a closed room, the Haryana Roadways Workers Union had warned to hold a ‘chakka jam’ from Sunday. Taking a serious note of it, the minister immediately started making efforts to resolve the issue. According to sources, a meeting of leaders of the union was held at DC office, Sonepat, on Saturday, in which the Cabinet minister and the woman were present. According to a union leader, the woman apologised and the matter was resolved amicably.
