Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies Subhash Sudha said Haryanvi cinema had a huge potential. He said the state government was committed to promote the Haryana film industry and artistes. He stated this while addressing a gathering on the concluding day of Seventh Haryana International Film Festival at Kurukshetra University last evening.

The film festival was organised by the Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs, Kurukshetra University, in collaboration with Sanskriti Society for Arts and Cultural Development.The minister said, “The young generation is making films on stories based on the culture of Haryana and the audience is appreciating the films. The government is making all efforts to promote Haryana film industry. A number artistes from Haryana have earned a reputation in the film industry and are winning awards at the national level. The film makers, who want to shoot films in Haryana, will get support from the government.”

On the occasion, Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, said, “This festival will be a regular event of Kurukshetra University from the next year. More efforts will be put in to make this event productive for students and professionals. The university will also start a course in the genre of drama.”

Artistes and filmmakers, who participated in the film festival, were given various awards during the closing ceremony.

Dr Jimmy Sharma, Deputy Director, Public Relations Department, said Prof Maha Singh Poonia, Director, Public Relations Department, was honoured with the Folk Icon of Haryana Award, Dr Kuldeep Singh Arya, supervisor, KU Dhrohar Museum, received the Promoter of Haryanvi Heritage Award and Dr Harvinder Rana, culture supervisor, Youth and Cultural Affairs Department, received the Promoter of Haryanvi Music Art Award. Acclaimed film stars Avtar Gill, Rajendra Gupta and Yashpal Sharma were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor during the programme.
