Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jinda on Thursday came down heavily on the Punjab Government and Punjab Police over the alleged detention of people from Karnal in connection with the escape of an AAP MLA and rape accused Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Jhinda said that instead of harassing innocent people, the AAP government should first take responsibility for its own MLA.

"They don’t care for their own MLA. If they did, there would be no such crisis. Instead of safeguarding their legislator, they are resorting to high-handed police action to cover up failures," he added.

Jinda alleged that Punjab Police entered Dabri village in Karnal and picked up several people, including relatives of an HSGMC member Gurnam Singh, alias Laddi, under pressure tactics.

“This is wrong and will not be tolerated. Punjab Police are trying to create disturbance in peaceful Haryana. We have urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to take strict action against such misconduct,” he said.

It is learnt that Pathanmajra managed to escape from the residence of Laddi after the raid of Punjab Police. However, on the complaint of Punjab Police, the Karnal police have registered a case against the MLA, Laddi, and others for obstructing public servants in discharging their duty.

Besides, on the humanitarian front, Jinda announced that the HSGMC had written to the Punjab Government, offering to adopt one flood-affected district of Punjab. “Villages have been devastated, homes are submerged, and people are in distress. We want to stand with our brothers and sisters in this hour of crisis. Whether it takes six months or a year, we will take care of every need — be it rebuilding houses, helping with children’s education, or supporting farmers and livestock,” he said.

Jinda said that he would personally visit Punjab tomorrow to see relief work, including langar and other services. “Our commitment is to rehabilitate an entire district hit by floods. We want to share the grief of those people and serve them in the best possible way. This is our humble appeal to the Punjab Government,” he said.
