Now, the retired police personnel organisation — Haryana Police Sangthan (HPS) — has sought withdrawal of case against cops.

The Hisar police had registered an FIR on the charges of murder and other sections of the BNS against unknown cops into the death of Ganesh, a resident of 12 Quarters.

The police claimed that they were assaulted by youngsters playing the DJ and as they tried to detain the assailants, Ganesh jumped off the rooftop and died on July 7.

As the deceased's family staged a 11-day dharna, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini intervened, which resulted in the registration of the FIR against cops.

Rather than targeting police personnel who performed their duty, they should be honoured and promoted, said members of the HPS, adding that they would submit a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister.

Mahender Singh, district chief of the HPS, said, “The FIR registered against police personnel is unjustified and false. Shockingly cops were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and some of them even suffered injuries on the night of July 7."

He said despite CCTV footage showing youngsters attacking the police, a case had been filed against cops. He said they would organise a protest march on July 24.
