Haryana school education system ranked below Punjab’s

The school education system in Haryana has been ranked below neighbouring Punjab and Chandigarh in a survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Education.

While Punjab and Chandigarh have been ranked at Level-2 as against L-3 of Haryana for 2019-20, Delhi, Puducherry, Gujarat and Kerala have also been placed in Haryana’s category.

Punjab, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat are among the top performers in the analysis. There are no states in Level-1.

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, released the Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) for 2018-19 and 2019-20 today. The analysis assessed the performance of the school education system at the district level by creating an index for comprehensive analysis.

Meanwhile, in the 2018-19 analysis, Chandigarh, Gujarat and Kerala were in the Level-3 and Maharashtra and Delhi were placed in Level-4.

Haryana along with Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, Puducherry, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh were placed in Level-5.

The data was filled by districts through online portal. The PGI-D is expected to help the state Education Departments to identify gaps at the district level and improve their performance in a decentralised manner

The PGI-D structure comprises of total weight age of 600 points across 83 indicators, which are grouped under six categories viz outcomes, effective classroom transaction, infrastructure facilities and student’s entitlements, school safety and child protection, digital learning and governance process.
