The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has appointed Rakesh Kumar Khanna as the electricity ombudsman with the aim of swift and transparent resolution of consumer complaints. With over 25 years of experience in the power distribution sector, Khanna regards this role as a significant opportunity to address and resolve consumer issues effectively.

HERC has created a robust three-tier system for redressal of consumer complaints. Under which disputes up to Rs 1 lakh are resolved through 21 Consumer Grievance Redressal Forums (CGRFs) at the circle level. Disputes of Rs 1–3 lakh are heard in four zonal CGRFs. Disputes of more than Rs 3 lakh are settled by two corporate CGRFs (Panchkula and Gurugram). Consumers dissatisfied with the decision of CGRF can submit their complaints before the electricity ombudsman.
