A 29-year-old man was allegedly cheated by his bride and her accomplices at a village in Supaul district of Bihar. The Bihar police have registered a case of cheating, extortion and theft under Sections 318(4), 303(2) and 308(5) of the BNS. The wedding had been arranged through a middleman.

The groom, Hansraj, a resident of Jugalan village in Hisar, had agreed to marry a woman from Bihar, following the middleman's assurance. He paid Rs 91,000 for the wedding. Talking to the media today, Kuldeep, the victim's elder brother, said the middleman, Pawan Mandal, had arranged the marriage to a woman from Madhubani district.

On October 31, the groom's family travelled to Triveniganj in Bihar, where she was introduced to them. After agreeing to the match, Kuldeep paid the agreed sum for the bride’s clothes and jewellery. The wedding ceremony was conducted that night, and the bride was sent off with the groom.

However, he alleged that during the return journey, the bride's family hatched a conspiracy and took the couple in a car that was accompanied by a group of motorcycle riders. When they reached a secluded spot, the bride's family pulled out pistols and threatened the groom. They demanded Rs 30,000 and also stole mobile phones before fleeing with the bride.

Kuldeep said he had filed a formal complaint at Jadia police station in Bihar and had been told that the investigation was on.
