An HRTC bus, heading from Fatehabad to Chandigarh, overturned near Tohana this morning. After getting stuck in loose soil, the bus turned turtle on a road near Jamalpur village in Tohana. Around 20 people, including passengers, the driver and the conductor, were injured in the mishap. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, locals staged a protest, blaming the poor condition of the road for the accident. They pointed out that the construction of a bridge on the main road had worsened the situation.

They criticised the contractor for not securing the soil properly along the road’s edges, which had caused several accidents, including today’s bus rollover.

The protesters also highlighted traffic congestion on alternative routes, causing long queues of vehicles. The residents asked had there been more severe damage or loss of life, who would have been held responsible?
