The Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board’s (HSHDB) Deputy Chairman Dhuman Singh Kirmach said from next year, the board would observe a 10-day Saraswati Mahotsav.

As per the chairman, the board will hold events in districts from where the Saraswati river passes and a crafts fair will be organised at Pehowa in Kurukshetra.

Dhuman Singh said, “A four-day Saraswati Mahotsav-2024 concluded with the evening Aarti on Wednesday evening. Various events were organised during the mahotsav in Yamunanagar, Rohtak and Kurukshetra. It has been decided that from the next year, the mahotsav will be organised for 10 days and events will be held in Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Sirsa and other districts.”

“The government has been making efforts to promote religious tourism in Kurukshetra. Currently, an 18-day International Gita Mahotsav is organised in Kurukshetra and lakhs of tourists attend the mahotsav. The Saraswati mahotsav will also help in attracting more tourists. While a crafts fair will be organised at Pehowa and a national-level seminar will be organised at Kurukshetra University. The scale of celebrations will increase gradually,” he added.

The deputy chairman said a Saraswati Vatika was being developed near Pipli at a cost of Rs 3.68 crore and will be completed in three phases. In the first phase, a budget of Rs 1.90 crore will be spent in which new ghats will be constructed, stone pitching, interlocking paver blocks and pipeline will be laid to stop dirty water from Bir Pipli and Khanpur drain into the river. There is also a plan to introduce boating in a small stretch of the river and also start evening Aarti on the lines of Brahma Sarovar.
