Illegal structures razed along Southern Peripheral Road
The Enforcement Wing of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Monday carried out a demolition drive along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). During the drive, the enforcement wing demolished illegal structures in Rambir ki Dhani, which were constructed without permission of the civic authorities.
“When the SPR alignment was finalised and the land was demarcated, HSVP gave alternative plots to land owners. Despite getting possession, owners continued to occupy the land for the past two years. They made permanent structures in Rambir ki Dhani on the main road along the Southern Peripheral Road. It was also found that additional shops were built and leased out to furniture vendors. Commercial activities were also being carried out without due permission. Hence, action has been taken against them,” said RS Baath, DTP of the GMDA and nodal officer of the enforcement wing of all government authorities in Gurugram city.
The drive was conducted along the SPR up to Vatika Chowk. Three main structures along with small rooms, three nurseries and five furniture shops were demolished. Encroachments were removed from around 2 acres of green belts in Sector 71.
Over 70 police personnel and MC officials accompanied the enforcement team during the drive.
“This stretch connects New Gurugram to Sectors 50 to 74 and also caters to traffic of the highway. There was also major traffic congestion due to encroachment along the green belts. The GMDA is also planning to develop service roads along this stretch,” Baath said.
During the drive, it was also found that some houses were also constructed on the opposite side of the sector and were rented out. They have been given two-week time to relocate to some other place.
The enforcement team issued warning to all violators to abide by the law and remove the encroachment from green belts and master roads.
