The executive council of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the reinstatement of Dr RK Karwasra, senior professor and former head, department of surgery. He will neither be head of department nor given administrative and financial powers.

Dr Karwasra and two others were suspended in November 2018 after an NHRC report and complaints.

An NHRC team inspected the PGIMS in 2017 and met patients, some of whom complained that certain doctors indulged in private practice or took money for surgery.

Dr OP Kalra, UHS Vice-Chancellor, said the decision had been taken by the executive council and conveyed to the PGIMS Director.

Dr Karwasra said the report on charges relied on findings from the Bhagavad Gita, Islam and Christianity and not concrete evidence. He said he would decide his future course of action after receiving a communique.
