Dr Siwach had been suspended after being indicted in a fact-finding inquiry into the allegations of corrupt practices in the selection process during his tenure as the director of the BPS Medical College, Khanpur Kalan. The professor was later allowed to resume clinical work, his headship and administrative powers were taken away. He got a clean-chit in a regular inquiry conducted by retired District and Sessions Judge RP Bhasin, following which he was reinstated as the head of the department. In the legal notice sent, the professor has maintained that his reputation had been tarnished and if the authorities concerned do not tender an apology within 15 days, a defamation suit for damages of Rs 5 crore may be filed against them. UHS VC said the notice would be appropriately responded to. — TNS
