Indoor Sports Complex emerges as Karnal’s fitness, recreation hub
The newly inaugurated Indoor Sports Complex in Sector 32 is becoming the city’s premier fitness and recreation destination, attracting people from all walks of life — children, women, youth, and senior citizens.
Constructed under the Smart City Project at a cost of Rs 44 crore, the complex houses two swimming pools with seating for 384 spectators, a five-court badminton hall, three fully equipped gym halls, a cross-fit training zone, a yoga and meditation hall, separate changing and shower rooms for men and women, a cafeteria, medical room, administrative office, and ample parking.
The complex was inaugurated on January 10 by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, claiming the complex would provide world-class amenities to fitness enthusiasts.
At the heart of the complex lies a 10-lane Olympic-standard swimming pool (50m x 25m), complete with temperature-controlled water, advanced filtration systems, and underwater lighting, ensuring year-round use in every kind of weather. A warm-up pool (25m x 21m) supports simultaneous coaching and recreational swimming, enhancing the complex’s accessibility and efficiency.
With extended training hours, consistent water temperature, the pools have evolved into more than just recreational hotspots — they are now centres for professional training.
As per regular swimmers, some of the city’s present facilities suffered from irregular schedules, overcrowding and weather-related disruptions, making swimming inconsistent. With the launch of the complex, people can swim at their preferred hours, benefiting from two well-maintained pools.
“I used to struggle with irregular pool timings, weather-related disruptions and maintenance issues at other pools in the area. But after joining the complex, I can swim any time of the day,” said Amandeep, a fitness enthusiast.
Another fitness lover, Vatan Nagpal, said, “The sports complex offers everything under one roof — gym, swimming and badminton. There is no need to go anywhere else. It has enhanced not just the city’s fitness infrastructure, but also its lifestyle appeal under the Smart City project.”
Shweta, a fitness enthusiast, said, “The complex provides a safe, hygienic and clean environment to people who come here for their activities. There are proper security arrangements here and we feel safe to come here for a workout.”
Puneet Kaushik, another fitness enthusiast, said, “People of Karnal now have access to all facilities under one roof — whether it is gym, badminton, swimming, yoga or Pilates. All activities are available here under expert guidance.”
Davinder Lathar, who manages the complex, said, “Under the Smart City project, the city has got the world-class facility. We ensure safety and security of our members and provide a clean, hygienic space where they can work out comfortably.”
“Whether it is a young athlete preparing for competition or a working professional pursuing swimming as a hobby, the complex caters to all. It has become a community space where talent is nurtured, health is prioritised and people come together for an active lifestyle,” Lathar added. He believes that the facility will play a key role in nurturing talent and encouraging more youngsters to pursue sports professionally.
