An infant girl was found abandoned at the cradle centre (palna house) of MDD Bal Bhawan, a childcare institution (CCI), in the city on Sunday.
The cradle centre is an initiative of the state government for the shelter of abandoned children. The infant is likely to be two-day old and has been kept at the MDD Bal Bhawan under the observation of the staff members.
PR Nath, Director of the CCI, said they had informed the police as well as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). CWC Chairman Umesh Chanana visited the CCI and enquired about the health of the girl.
“After someone rang the bell, the security guard of the CCI spotted the baby and informed the management, after which she was taken into care,” said Nath, adding that the girl will be kept for a couple of days here and further shifted to the adoption centre.
Chanana said there could be reasons why the parents had left the girl here, but they could take her again if they wanted. They could approach the CWC within two months. After proper verification, the girl would be handed over to them.
