Info on chemical fertilisers to get radio boost

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) for broadcasting programmes related to the proper use of chemical fertilisers under the PM-Pranam Yojana.

1,260 programmes to be broadcast

• HAU Registrar Balwan Singh Mandal said under this pact, a total of 1,260 programmes of 90 minutes (180 programmes per radio station) would be broadcast
• A total of Rs 50.40 lakh would be given to the university for broadcasting these programmes
• He also said the university had established the first community radio station in north India, especially for the farmers

HAU Vice-Chancellor Prof BR Kamboj said seven community radio stations (CRSs) were being run under the university to disseminate latest information, technologies, innovations and weather-related inputs related to the agricultural sector.

Besides, they were used to broadcast latest research-related information, farmer-friendly schemes of the state and the Union Government to the farmers in an effective manner.

The VC said HAU was the first university in the country to have seven operational CRSs at Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Sirsa, Hisar, Jind, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Kurukshetra. He said the university would broadcast programmes to promote the balanced use of chemical fertilisers in their respective areas through scientific talks, success stories of progressive farmers, and raganis. The NFL would provide funds for these programmes, he said.

HAU Registrar Balwan Singh Mandal said under this pact, a total of 1,260 programmes of 90 minutes (180 programmes per radio station) would be broadcast under the yojana.

A total of Rs 50.40 lakh would be given to the university for broadcasting these programmes.

He also said the university had established the first community radio station in north India, especially for the farmers. Inspired by its success as a tool of extension, six community radio stations had also been set up with the help of the state government.
