Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsIndian National Lok Dal (INLD) district president Jasbir Singh Jassa has warned private fertiliser dealers in Sirsa to distribute DAP and urea fairly to farmers by Monday or face protests and lockouts of their shops.
In a statement on Thursday, Jassa said that former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala always fought for the farmers’ welfare and implemented several farmer-friendly schemes. He alleged that while the farmers were forced to present Aadhaar cards and other documents to get DAP fertiliser, liquor was sold freely without any paperwork. “Even after showing documents, the farmers are not getting enough DAP. They are being unnecessarily harassed,” he said.
Jassa claimed that the government’s fixed price for a DAP bag was Rs 1,350, but private shopkeepers were selling it for Rs 1,600 or more, cheating the farmers. He accused the local administration of ignoring the issue and indirectly supporting the dealers.
He also warned that if the Agriculture Department failed to act, the INLD would stage protests outside its offices. “The BJP claims to support the farmers, but in reality, their interests are being ignored. The INLD stands firmly with the farmers and will continue to fight for their rights,” Jassa added.
