Inspector Vivek Malik, In-charge of the CIA, Jhajjar, said acting on a tip-off about the smuggling of narcotics, a special operation was launched under the guidance of Commissioner of Police, Rajshree. A police team gathered crucial intelligence about the racket and soon laid a trap.
“The accused were intercepted while travelling in a Scorpio vehicle, which was coming from the Rohtak side. On checking, the police team found 97 kg of ganja packed in gunny bags kept in the vehicle. All five suspects, who were onboard the car, were arrested on the spot,” said Malik.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit alias Bhima, Vikas, alias Vicky, and Mohit, alias Pasha, all residents of Dubaldhan village; Sahil, alias Mussa of Bahadurgarh town in Jhajjar district and Satpal, alias Kala from Balam village in Rohtak district.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had previously made three trips to Odisha for similar smuggling operations. All five accused have criminal records, the police confirmed.
“Mohit has two criminal cases registered at the Beri police station. Rohit faces six criminal cases, including those related to murder, illegal arms possession and robbery in Beri and Gurugram. Satpal has three cases related illegal arms in Rohtak, while Sahil is named in seven cases related to theft and illegal weapons,” said Malik.
He further said Rohit and Satpal, believed to be the masterminds of the gang, had been taken into six-day police remand for further interrogation. The remaining three had been sent to judicial custody.
Malik said efforts were underway to trace other members of the gang and fully dismantle the inter-state drug smuggling network.
