Internal mobilisation of farmers unlikely in Haryana, cops step up vigil

Police and intelligence sources indicate that internal mobilisation of farmers is unlikely in Haryana for the “Dilli Chalo” call as major farmers organisations have stayed away from the call while the leaders of the farm bodies, which are part of the agitations, have gone underground or shifted to Punjab and other states.

Sources said the police had been gathering inputs from across rural areas, especially in Jind, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Hisar and Bhiwani districts about the possibility of mobilisation. Two prominent farmers’ organisations — Bhartiya Kisan Ekta leader Lakhvinder Singh Aulakh in Sirsa district had reportedly gone to Punjab while BKU (Kheti Bachao) leader Jarnail Singh Malwala had reportedly gone to Chandigarh as part of the delegation, which was likely to hold talks with the Centre.

The state government has specially deployed Nuh SP Narendra Bijarniya in Jind district in view of the sensitivity of the situation. Though the district administration has completely sealed the border at Data Singh Wala in Narwana subdivision, which was the main entry point from Punjab side, the police and intelligence personnel have been gathering inputs from sensitive Jind villages, including Kandela, Dhanouri, Dharodi etc.

The intelligence network is keeping a close watch on toll plazas and adjoining villages, especially the Khatkar toll in Jind district, which was the hotspot of activities in 2021, the Mayyar and Landhri toll plazas in Hisar, besides the Kitlana toll plaza in Charkhi Dadri districts.

Besides, the police, the Army at the cantonment in Hisar too have been getting feedback from the field about the prevailing situation. However, the sources said the government had deployed adequate paramilitary forces as reinforcements to deal with the situation.

Commercial activities hit

• The disconnection of Internet services and SMS services has disrupted the commercial activities and officials works which require OTP for processing services in Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani and Sirsa districts.
• The disruption of Internet services has led to a dip in orders on food apps. Visitors to government offices, who were required to make online payments and needed OTP for services, had to return disappointed on Monday.
