The much-anticipated Group ‘A’ Intra-Sainik Schools football tournament 2025-26 commenced on Tuesday at Sainik School, Kunjpura, with a vibrant opening ceremony. The event was graced by the Officiating Principal, Wing Commander Manpreet Singh, who served as the chief guest.

The ceremony began with a march-past by contingents from participating schools, showcasing unity and enthusiasm, followed by an oath-taking ceremony, where cadets pledged to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

Addressing the gathering, Wing Commander Manpreet Singh emphasised the importance of teamwork, discipline and perseverance in sports. He encouraged all participants to play with integrity and make the most of this opportunity to learn and grow.

The opening ceremony was attended by administrative officer Sqn Ldr Soniya Sharma, senior master Sanjay Chauhan, event in-charge BN Jha and the entire academic and administrative staff.

The inaugural match saw the host team, Sainik School-Kunjpura, securing a 1-0 victory against Sainik School-Sujanpur Tira. The tournament, featuring categories for Sub-Junior Boys (U-15), Junior Girls (U-17) and Junior Boys (U-17) will continue until April 26. Winners from each category will advance to the Inter-Group Football Tournament scheduled in May at Sainik School, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Success there could lead to representing the Sainik Schools Society in the Subroto Cup 2025.
