Dr Arvind Sharma, Minister for Cooperation, Jails, Elections, Tourism and Heritage, on Thursday carried out a surprise inspection at Sonepat district jail and reviewed the facilities provided to the inmates at the jail. The minister also got information about the skill development of the inmates and their food.

Dr Sharma directed the jail officials to improve the basic amenities for the inmates and also directed them to improve the greenery on the district jail premises.

Cabinet Minister Dr Arvind Sharma reached Sonepat to participate at the state-level ‘Antyodya Mela’ held in Subhash Stadium on Thursday.

Meanwhile, he reached the district jail for inspection and began from the petrol pump, which was being run by the district jail, where the jail inmates under observation, were filling the fuel in vehicles.

The Jail Minister, along with Jail Superintendent Rajender Singh, inspected the kitchen at the jail and checked the complete management and the food quality. He directed the jail authorities to keep the arrangements better in the kitchen.

Sharma then visited the video-conferencing centre in the district jail, from where inmates appeared before the court online, and praised the system by saying that this system had reduced the security pressure during the court hearings of the inmates, and it had also saved time to take and bring back the inmates to the courts.

The Jail Minister also directed a special drive be launched for increasing greenery on the jail premises and also visited the jail factory and interacted with the inmates there.

The minister also directed Rajender Singh to get regular medical check-up done of the inmates and also ensure that no drugs should reach on the campus at any cost.
