The MBBS exams conducted in January and May 2024 have become the focus of an expanding police investigation into the scam that came to light at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), earlier this year.

“Over 10 university employees, including a faculty member, have been questioned regarding both the exams. All of them held key responsibilities during the exam cycles and were questioned following disclosures made by a key accused. The police are now preparing to interrogate several students (who took the exams) suspected to be involved in the scam. The two employees recently arrested were also connected to the May exams,” claimed sources.

A fact-finding committee, led by Dr MK Garg, had revealed in its report that 46 answer sheets were found missing during the January exams. Some of the answer sheets were allegedly used in the May exams.

The key accused also disclosed that three question papers were leaked from an exam centre on the UHSR campus in May. “These two exams are the key to unravelling the scam, which involves both university employees and students,” the sources claimed.

An official document accessed by ‘The Tribune’ revealed that during interrogation, a key accused admitted being approached by students from the 2020 MBBS batch to secure passing marks in the May exams. A deal was reportedly stuck in lieu of money.

The accused allegedly procured blank answer sheets from an assistant and collaborated with a university programmer to leak the papers. Certain individuals impersonated genuine students, wrote the exams at the accused’s house, and swapped the answer sheets with the original ones with help from insiders. The authorities also received a video showing some individuals attempting the answer sheets seated on a bed.

Many of the tampered answer sheets were among the 46 found missing during the January exams. A faculty member, who served as a key official at the exam centre, had also been questioned recently.
