He was produced before a court on Saturday, which granted his one-day remand.
As per the information, the bureau has arrested Irrigation Department JE Saurabh Rana while accepting a bribe red-handed from a contractor and registered a case at the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Ambala.
In his complaint to the bureau, the complainant alleged that his firm had built a bridge in Kurukshetra and the work was completed in March. The JE had sought Rs 15 lakh as commission to clear the bills and release the performance security. The deal was fixed at Rs 13 lakh. While Rs 3 lakh was already given, as security, the JE had taken two cheques from the contractor. On Friday, the JE had asked the contractor to collect his cheques and pay the bribe of Rs 3.90 lakh in cash, and he was arrested while accepting the bribe.
